Holistic Massage Training Institute
in Baltimore, Maryland opened its
doors in January 2000. The school
was founded by Janine Cormier
Fleming, who in addition to
having a successful full-time
massage practice, had been teaching
massage workshops for 11 years. The
school offers a 600-hour (12 month
or 18 month) massage therapy
training which, once completed, will
qualify the student to sit for the
National Certification Exam in
Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and
become a certified massage therapist
(if the applicant has accumulated at
least 60 college credits) or
registered massage practitioner (if
the applicant does not have 60
college credits) in Maryland. The
course is designed to provide the
experience, hands-on-training and
essential knowledge of what is
needed to run a successful massage
practice. Graduates of this training
will be qualified to do Swedish and
deep tissue massage. They will also
have been introduced to other
techniques such as
craniosacral
therapy,
myofascial release,
reiki,
acupressure, shiatsu, reflexology,
medical and sports massage.
In addition to the 600-hour massage
therapy training, Holistic Massage
Training Institute offers a program
of community seminars for the
general public, and continuing
education workshops for certified
massage therapists. These are
available to students in the
600-hour massage therapy training to
supplement their learning.
